Spyware Classifications
One of the biggest issues that causes a problem is with how the different types of spyware are defined. The vague definition of “Spyware” itself is used to cover a wide range of applications, from adware/spyware to computer monitoring surveillance spyware. Some of the most commonly used and popular programs to detect spyware are good at detecting adware/spyware but lack in ferreting out the more dangerous computer keystroke logging and computer monitoring surveillance spyware. Regardless of the type of spyware installed on your system, both can collect personal information and affect your computers performance using up valuable system resources, causing conflicts and system crashes. For the purposes of this website and to help clear up any confusion we have broken down and classified spyware into the following categories:
• Adware/Spyware are small programs that secretly monitor your web browsing habits, websites visited and sometimes personal information. This type of spyware is usually used for marketing purposes. For more information on this type of adware/spyware detection and removal we suggest the following programs Spyware Doctor and Webroot’s Spysweeper both are available at www.SpywareSpecialist.com
• Software Keystroke loggers are programs installed on your computer that can capture every keystroke typed on your keyboard.
• Activity Monitors are Software programs which have different options to capture screenshots, record all keystrokes typed, record email and chat sessions, websites visited, Instant messages and Passwords. Basically anything done on the computer will be recorded and stored in a file, sometimes encrypted, the more popular versions of this spyware software can email all of these results to a remote computer at scheduled days and times with all of this done in STEALTH mode without your knowledge. Making the detection of this software even more difficult, is that some of these programs can rename themselves, change files signature and their location at random or uninstall themselves at a preset time. • Hardware Keystroke loggers are hardware devices disguised as a cable or extension that look like legitimate components attached to the keyboard port on the back of your computer, or can be hidden inside a keyboard to capture every keystroke typed on your keyboard. (Hardware Keystroke Loggers can’t be detected with Anti Spyware Software programs, the only way to detect and remove them is with a physical, visual search of the computer.)
